HOW SALARY SACRIFICE WORKS
The government model is straightforward: your employer provides the cycle under a hire agreement and you give up an agreed amount of salary before tax.

The cycle is provided under a separate hire agreement. It is not an immediate purchase.
An agreed amount is taken from gross pay over the period set by your employer.
Income Tax and employee National Insurance are usually calculated on the reduced cash salary.
For an employee in England, Wales or Northern Ireland whose full sacrifice falls within the 20% basic Income Tax band and 8% employee NI band: £100 of gross salary sacrificed each month reduces take-home pay by about £72. Over 12 months, that is an illustrative 28% reduction—£336 on a £1,200 cycle.
